Big Bass Splash Slot Review

If you enjoyed Big Bass Bonanza, you’ll love this 2022 sequel! Pragmatic Play sticks with the same 5-reel, 10-payline setup but adds in a few extra features that don’t merely sprinkle but splash an added dose of excitement. There are many fun, predictable symbols and one very unpredictable Monster Struck that acts as the premium payer. It all boils down to the free spins where the Fisherman Wild symbol catches those fish money values and offers win multipliers for a max payout of up to 5,000x your bet. It’s easy to enter the bonus rounds thanks to a new Scatter respin feature.

Watching the action play out is a lot more exciting than my literary skills can describe, so we’ve provided a list of the best sweepstakes casinos where you can join in and play. You can also try out the demo right here. More details about the game are covered in this Big Bass Splash slot review.

Pros

  • Sequel to a popular game
  • Generous free spins round
  • High RTP and max win
  • Scatter assist feature

Cons

  • Hard to trigger more than three Scatter symbols
  • Main game is basic

About Big Bass Splash

Big Bass Splash slot is the second installment in the Big Bass series, which was born out of a successful partnership between Pragmatic Play and Reel Kingdom. This release is an attempt to make the series even more exciting while staying as true to the original Big Bass Bonanza as possible. Big Bass Bonanza was well-received and massively popular, so it makes sense that they wouldn’t want to change up the format too much. Why fix it when it’s not broken, right?

They’ve still managed to create unique distinctions that make this game easily identifiable. The highest-paying symbol here is no longer a float but a Monster Truck. I guess rather than paddling out to sea, firing up your monster truck along the edge of the shore is sure to create more of a splash. Whatever the thought process that led the creative team at Pragmatic Play to go with this seemingly random symbol, they’ve made it work as the defining symbol for this slot.

Big Bass Splash slot also offers bigger payout potential, supported by enhanced features and a beefed-up free spins round – more on that later. Everything else is pretty similar to the original, including an identical RTP of 96.71%.

Theme and Graphics

As I’ve already hinted, the visuals on Big Bass Splash are almost identical to the prequel. However, anyone with an eye for detail will pick up a couple of subtle design changes. For instance, the underwater reels are set a bit closer to shore, as a rugged, rocky coastline is visible atop the reels. The graphics aren’t static but slightly animated. There are floating sea plants, fish swimming in the background, and an undulating movement of the water throughout the gameplay. Even the symbols have received some graphic changes, but besides the Monster Truck, it’s still the same range of characters: fishing rods, dragonflies, tackle boxes, fish money symbols, and A – J low-paying card symbols.

Big Bass Splash Slot RTP and Volatility

The RTP on this slot is very generous, but this is common with Pragmatic Play slots. For the uninitiated, RTP refers to how much a game will pay out in the long run relative to the amount of bets placed on it. The 96.71% offered here is significantly higher than average. As for volatility, Big Bass Splash is designed as a highly volatile slot, meaning winning combinations are not too frequent but can pay large amounts when they occur.

How to Play and Win

Big Bass Splash is simple to play and win. It comes with 5 reels and 10 paylines that pay from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel. Just like the prequel, it follows the most basic video slot gameplay model – three or more matching symbols on a payline will result in a win. Only the Monster Truck can pay for two of a kind.

All payouts are according to the paytable:

  • Monster Truck – 0.5x-200x
  • Fishing rod – 3x-100x
  • Dragonfly – 2x-50x
  • Tackle box – 2x-50x
  • Fish symbols – 1x – 20x
  • A, K – 0.2x-10x
  • Q, J, 10 – 0.2x-5x

Big Bass Splash Bonus Features

Big Bass Splash has just one bonus round, and this is where you have the best winning chances, thanks to modifiers and randomly occurring features. There are also complementary features like the Fisherman Wilds and Scatter respins that are tied to the bonus game.

Scatter Respin

The main game itself is pretty basic except for a respin feature that takes place whenever only two Fish Scatters land. The Scatters nudge one space down and hold in place while other reels respin to increase your chances of getting a third Scatter symbol that will activate the bonus round. However, respins will only occur if the Scatter symbols can nudge without falling off the reels. Where Scatters land on the bottom reel, the respin won’t happen.

Fisherman Wild

The Fisherman Wild only appears during the free spins bonus round. It does the standard job of the Wild symbol by substituting for other symbols with the exception of the Scatter. However, its more important function in Big Bass Splash is to catch the money values attached to fish symbols that land on the same spin.

Free Spins Feature

Three or more Scatters trigger the free spins round in Big Bass Splash. You’ll get 10, 15, or 20 freebies for 3, 4, or 5 Scatter symbols that land anywhere on the reels on a single spin. The free spins play out on a similar grid setup, except this time, there’s a progressive trail atop the reels where Fisherman Wilds that land during the spins are collected. The trail is divided into levels that come with increasing multiplier values – 2x, 3x, and 10x. Reaching a new level will retrigger the free spins.

Free spins may also come with modifiers, and these will be awarded at the start of the feature. There are 5 different kinds:

  • More Fish – will allow more fish money symbols to land
  • More Fisherman – will allow more Fisherman Wild symbols to land
  • Start from Level 2 – will take you straight to the second level on the progressive trail, where a 2x multiplier applies to all your winnings
  • +2 Spins – will start off each round with 2 extra spins.

More Dynamites, Hooks, and Bazookas – will increase your chances of hitting more dynamites, hooks, and bazookas. These are modifiers that randomly activate on any losing spin. When a Fisherman Wild lands with no fish symbols in view, the dynamite modifier can add fish symbols whereas bazooka transforms all regular symbols for a chance to potentially land those coveted fish money symbols. On the contrary, the hook modifier can pull up a random reel to reveal a Fisherman Wild in a case where you already have fish but no fisherman.

Our Experience with Big Bass Splash

Big Bass Splash Win

  • Starting Balance: 100,000 GC
  • Bet Per Spin: 1 GC
  • Spin Count: 200
  • Final Balance: 100,044 GC
  • Biggest Total Win: 127.00
  • Bonus Rounds Triggered: 4

Considering its high volatility tag, Big Bass Splash was much more forthcoming than I expected. Personally, I’d put this slot at medium variance level since I hit quite a few winning combinations when I played it. Even the bonus rounds were not too hard to come by.

Within my first 20 spins, I activated the free spins feature and won 127 GC. This would turn out to be the largest single win I made. In 200 spins, the bonus round triggered a total of four times. I did experience one really long dry run of about 20+ spins without a win. However, on average, I’d say there’s a hit frequency of one in ten spins. It clearly exceeded the RTP since I ended up with a profit of 44 GC on top of my starting bankroll. The winnings I got from the free spins round are mainly to thank for this.

Reasons in Favor and Against Playing Big Bass Splash

I’m a fan of Pragmatic Play games because they constantly deliver amazing visuals and engaging features and have some of the best background music. This is the first reason why I recommend this slot. But there’s also the hard fact that this is a great game you can play for a long time and not get bored. There’s also a good RTP, and the max win is not bad.

If you’re looking for a slot with lots of base game action, this may not be the right pick for you. The free spins do all the heavy lifting in the Big Bass Splash slot. Also, if you’ve played Big Bass Bonanza, it may feel like you’re playing the same game all over again. The differences are subtle and mostly evident during the free spins. Depending on where you play, you can buy into the bonus round if you prefer.
